‘Derp’ comes from the South Park series, when Mr. Derp made a guest appearance at South Park Elementary as the chef for a day.
The word stands for a simple, undefined reply when an ignorant comment or action is made. It is also an expression sometimes used online to signify stupidity, much like the earlier forms of “duh” and “dur.”
