Our standards of beauty change over the years. While these ladies may have been considered beautiful in their day, I don’t think they would win any beauty contests these days. The thing that is most obvious is the lack of makeup.

Take off the make up of most of the Hollywood stars and they lose their amazing beauty. Only few of them look beautiful without make up.

While these ladies may have been considered beautiful in their day, I don’t think they would win any beauty contests these days.

as you are fond of stating in your posts- "mister french full-of-crap man is still french and full of crap."

regardless, many, many of these girls had amazingly beautiful eyes. in other words, eyes that were beautiful on their own merit, and didn't need to be coated with black rings like most of today's 'hotties' like to do.

also, rhinoplasty didn't exist back then.

Most of these women are either silent film actresses, singers, Vaudeville stars or from Broadway plays. But I agree with everyone else, they are all beautiful women, regardless of what era they lived in. And yes, saying they have no makeup on is incorrect. They don't have on the heavy eye makeup we favor today, but they are all sporting a heavy pancake foundation that gives their skin that uniform look in every picture. It was necessary for headshots back then because they didn't have the Photoshop type things we do now.

A good selection of photographs. The costumes are beautiful. However many of these photographs would have been re-touched in the photographer's studio, yesterday's equivalent of Photoshop. I have contemporary accounts of photographers doing so and making the actresses of the day look more beautiful.
