This curious Chinese delicacy of hardboiled eggs, takes a special ingredient that traditionally, only a boy, preferably under the age of 10, will supply to the recipe.
Every day, buckets of fresh urine are gathered from the schools to boil eggs in to make this much sought after treat. The eggs are first boiled with their shells on in the urine and then with the shells off for about a day and a half. I can't imagine who first come up with this idea, and why, but it does boggle the mind. "Honey - let's boil these eggs in youngest son's pee and see how they taste."
