Using the well-known $100 bill, these images show just how large the US national debt actually is.

100 dollars

10,000 dollars

One million dollars

100 million dollars

One billion dollars

One trillion dollars

Please note that this is composed of two floors of pallets, for $ 100 million each. Football field and 747-400 for comparison.

15 trillion dollars

Near is The Statue of Liberty for comparison. But this is not the US debt.

114.5 trillion dollars. This is the US debt now.

the debt is more than double the 14trillion. there was an audit that was just released showing that the fed loaned out another 16trillion to banks without government approval. this country is a problem and the ones who are out to fix it are the ones who are causing it to get worse...smh

You can't pay back the $4.6 trillion on intragovernmental debt. That can only happen by Social Security, Medicare and so on running deficits. Therefore the remaining $9.7 in public debt is the only debt one needs to worry about. TRY READING A BUDGET www.fms.treas.gov/mts/index.html

Number 4 may be a wanker, but he is right. Commenters 6 and 10 are probably an explanation of how the US got into this situation.
