Despite the economic downturn and the flagging music industry people are still buying singles and entire albums, but who could have guessed these amazing record selling statistics?

Creed has sold more records in the US than Jimi Hendrix

Led Zeppelin, REM, and Depeche Mode have never had a number one single, Rihanna has 10

Ke$ha's “Tik-Tok” sold more copies than ANY Beatles single

Flo Rida's “Low” has sold 8 million copies – the same as The Beatles' “Hey Jude”

The Black Eyed Peas' “I Gotta Feeling” is more popular than any Elvis or Simon & Garfunkel song

Celine Dion's “Falling Into You” sold more copies than any Queen, Nirvana, or Bruce Springsteen record

Same with Shania Twain's “Come On Over”

Katy Perry holds the same record as Michael Jackson for most number one singles from an album

Barbara Streisand has sold more records (140 million) than Pearl Jam, Johnny Cash, and Tom Petty combined

People actually bought Billy Ray Cyrus' album “Some Gave All…” 20 million people. More than any Bob Marley album

The cast of “Glee” has had more songs chart than the Beatles

This guy exists.

yes, its all nice and pretty... and this list above only proves that quality is more than quantity...

Which means if you talk about future, Rihana, Ka$a and others will be forgotten... Beatles, REM and Others Not.

Skewed stats. The population now is much larger than it was 20 - 40 years ago. It's easier for people to have access to music to buy than before the Internet.
If you want to make a fairer "sales" comparison, you would need to compare the number of people that have illegally downloaded a song (a stat that will never be known) against the number of people that 'illegally' taped a song from the radio or ripped it from a CD or pre-recorded tape (a stat that will never be known).
To compare the popularity of Katy Perry to Jacko is absurd. When Jacko released a new song/video, it was an EVENT.
This whole list is fucked.

Justin Bieber is a GOD. I jerk off to his picture every day.

My first thought was like the population its more and than those days of rem, etc, the marketing and the media are so much invasive now than ever, like i dont change the channel from an katy perry video just for watching her, i dont use the mute button just for not look like a total wanker, so we listen to boobs blings and junks.

And im totally agree with trtr,

And im writing from hell, they have unlimited drugs FOR FREE!
