Everyone knows this song by The Eagles. But have you ever dreamt to visit the legendary Hotel California in reality?

The Hotel California is located in Todos Santos, a town on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. It was founded by a Chinese immigrant in 1948. Since this was the only place in town where cold beer was served it soon became popular. That’s probably why The Eagles devoted their song to this place.

The hotel’s complete renovation in 2002 transformed the original 16 rooms into 11 suites. Today this place is an icon that attracts many people.

This hotel is not the hotel in Hotel California. They were talking about The Black House in San Francisco, then home of Anton LaVey, founder of The Church of Satan. The house had many secret corridors and trap doors leading to windowless dark painted rooms. Henley and the Eagles were dabbling in Satanism at the time, as it was vogue among musicians at the time. The line about checking out anytime you like but you can never leave is a loose interpretation of Church of Satan membership policy.

Actually it's not about any real place but they were singing about living life too fast when you get famous.
Some of celebrities ended their lifes during short stay in Hotel California: Joplin, Morrison and Hendrix.
