Chris Arnade created a photo project named "Faces of Addiction." He walks South Bronx, talks to local drug addicts and makes their close-up portraits. Chris claims that he’s not a journalist – he doesn’t verify facts but just listens to people’s stories. Here are some pictures from Arnade’s collection.

WE spend trillions of dollars a year to bomb and kill innocent women and children in other countries, we spend billions to put a camera on mars but not a dime - we spend nothing to help rehabilitate feed clothe & shelter our own American born souls. What a sad pathetic species we humans.

I understand what you are saying, but people need to want to be helped - many don't. And many are beyond help.

btw: we don't spend trillions of $ to "bomb and kill innocent women and children", and we DO spend $millions to help rehabilitate feed clothe & shelter our own American born souls, and a lot of illegal aliens, too!

That said, humans ARE sad and pathetic. ...AND noble in reason, infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god!

I was a heroin addict/alcoholic for ~19 years. In the end I was homeless, friendless, and pennieless, sleeping on the streets in downtown San Diego. It was hellish. I am now >21 years clean and sober thanks to AA. I am grateful to be free!

I would not wish drug addiction/alcoholism on my worst enemy.

This is an excellent post. These poor, sad people.

Good for you, Snake Plissken. You must have gone through hell to reach the other side.
