Richard Wagner is credited with the "invention" of those viking helmets.
The closest thing to viking helmets that really existed where the helmets that belonged to the "Sherden"

Vikings discovering America had no impact on Europe while Columbus did. So their discovery is simply irrelevant.

based on archeological evidence, the americas were discovered many times throughout history. the europeans were simply the -last- discoverers who had a major impact.

re: the video,
no need to slag off poets and artists. their job is the interpretation of facts, not the direct reporting of facts. godiva is one of those things that's both an historic event and a legendary event, like king arthur. looking at it as factual or non-factual is missing the point.

@ gigantes: If we're going to get all nit-picky the Americas have been discovered many times throughout "Prehistory". "History" implies a written account of the events of which only two are currently known: Columbus and the Vikings. Even the Viking accounts being considered "historical" is debatable as they exist as folk tales of the events rather than factual written accounts. While poets and artists may be tasked with creating an interpretation of the facts, we have to be careful of who paid them to undertake that task and/or what the purpose of their interpretation was. The purpose of these vids is to chip away some of the "interpretation" that has become "fact". The point hasn't been missed here, the separation between fact and legend emphasizes the creativity of those who made the interpretation and allows the listener/reader to understand the events behind the myth.
On a lighter note, these vids are hilarious as f**K! keep em rolling!
