I think that the lines between what is an acceptable touch and a bad touch have become somewhat blurred and aren't governed by a generally accepted social norm. Everyone's personal bubble is different these days and these (poor) guys just don't want to risk it... Either that or they have no girlfriend and watch so much freaky porn that they worry about popping a boner at the slightest touch.
