A Glass Viewing Platform Is Scary Enough without This Happening… (11 pics)

The Willis Tower in Chicago is known for its iconic Skydeck ledge that is located 1,353 feet above the ground on the 103rd floor of the building. One family who were visiting the platform, got more of an experience than they bargained for when they decided to experience this attraction.

Alejandro Garibay and his brother and cousins were sitting on the floor for a photo when the glass started to crack. The irony is that only a few moments earlier staff had told them that the floor was able to withstand 5 tons and was unbreakable.

Except that's only the layer placed on top of the actual glass floor. It's there so they can replace it when it gets scratched and worn, rather than having to replace the expensive floor itself.

yes, thank you. the supporting layer, the one that actually matters, was completely sound.

That is Sears Tower. How ridiculous to rename it to its new owner. Imagine the Eiffel Tower being sold and renamed!
