The animal in these photos is a ferox which is a carnivorous mammal that are found throughout forested areas of Madagascar. It is the largest of the predatory mammals of the island. The fossa hunts small to medium sized animals, from fish to birds. It is particularly adept at hunting lemurs, and is the predominant predator of many species, with only Madagascar's large snakes and Nile crocodiles being larger. Its prehistoric ancestors reached the size of a lion.
These photos were taken by wildlife photographer David Maitland. They are exquisite in their detail and show how beautiful and complex Mother Nature truly is. The diversity of these photos is amazing. Have a look for yourself.
The goats in these photos are either very brave or very stupid or both. I know that mountain goats are supposed to be good climbers but this is ridiculous. How they ever got in some of the places they got to in these photos is beyond me. In addition to being brave or stupid, maybe they can fly as well?
The guy in these photos is sure going to have a whale of a story to tell his grandkids. Imagine getting the opportunity to swim with whales. They are truly majestic mammals. Apparently, judging from these photos, they are also very friendly. The beauty of the ocean must have only added to his enjoyment.
Oh, kittys. They are so endearing. Little red kittys are especially cute. At birth they are ever so cute with their little red noses. Then they get a little older and are ever so playful. Finally, they become fully grown and are somewhat less playful and more like a large fluff of redness. What would the world do without red cats?
Gophers are the cutest creatures as evidenced by these photos taken by Stefano Unterthiner. They seem not to have a care in the world and all their time is spent playing in their natural habitat. They appear so carefree and playful it should remind us all to take the time to stop and smell the roses.
A female bear escaped from a wildlife park and was spotted near one Polish village. Veterinarians that were called shot her with a tranquilizer dart. Then they were going to load the animal into the car and drive it to the zoo. But during the loading, the bear suddenly woke up and rushed on her captors. You’d better run fast
Monkeys are truly amazing animals. There high wire antics as shown in these photos prove that. They have extraordinary balancing ability and seem to defy gravity. It would appear that only their amazing skill and the grace of the monkey that keep them aloft.
They can even become friends for a short period of time. Since they don’t hunt during the day and the photo was taken at dusk the Cheetahs in this photo must have just eaten. The baby Antelope is safe this time. They are simply playing with the Antelope, much the same as a domestic cat plays with a toy. However, it is probably better not to think about what happens when the cats get hungry. The next time the prey and the predator meet there will likely be a different outcome.
Sea dragons inhabit the waters around Australia and are relatives of seahorses. There are many around the world who keep these marvellous creatures in aquariums. There are two types of these strange looking creatures; Weedy sea dragons and Leafy sea dragons. The photos in this post depict examples of the Weedy sea dragon.
Some Russian sailors who were serving on submarines have noticed that Polar Bears prefer to eat bread. In fact, as depicted in these photos, they like it enough that they are willing to risk their lives jumping from one piece of ice to another in an effort to get close to the submarine so they can beg for more bread. Who’da thunk it?
Meet Hercules, a 900lbs liger. He is truly a magnificent beast born to a lion father and a tigress mother. He is 12ft. long and measures up to 4.5ft at the shoulder and almost 6ft at the tips of his ears, so you can imagine how huge he is. The pictures were shot for a commercial on the London streets where you can see that Hercules is quite capable of reaching out to the top of the British Double Decker bus and he looms easily over the traditional black cabs. If you thought of having such an animal at your place, think twice, because you’ll need to feed him with 25lbs of meat and a gallon of water a day ;) Apparently, ligers are not very healthy due to the mixture of genes of different species, but Hercules seems just fine to me.
Do animals have bigger hearts than what we do? They seem to accept differences more easily when compared to us humans. Probably we’ll need to pick a leaf or two from their books to learn about harmony. Anyways, just check these photographs and you will understand what I mean. Most of the photographs are really cute. Some of them are too funny where the animals, especially of different species, try to make out with each other and even more… ;)
It is absolutely amazing how cats are able to get themselves in so much trouble. If there weren’t photos to prove it no one would believe such a thing. However, as these photos show, cats manage to get themselves in some unbelievable predicaments. While it is possible to stage a photo of a cat in a most comprising situation, these photos prove that you never know what kind of trouble your cat can get into if left to their own devices.
Seagulls are amazing thieves. Seagulls have been known to attack people for their ice cream cones. Not only are they extremely successful at it but they will also steal anything that doesn’t move and some things that do. The photo proves that. After plucking a Puffin fish from the water the seagull gets attacked by other seagulls who want the fish. His rivals manage to distract the first Seagull enough so that the Puffin fish is simply dropped to the ground. Sometimes there just is no justice.
Is there anything cuter than a kitten playing with a squirrel, or a baby goat? Then there is always the baby monkey sitting in the palm of your hand and the baby bird in the nest with its mother just after being hatched. One would have a difficult time choosing between these animals to determine which is the cutest.
At least it was for one wildebeest that was, quite literally, looking into the jaws of death as the jaws of a huge crocodile with its mouth agape tried its dead level beast to have the wildebeest for lunch as was crossing a river that was crocodile infested. It appeared that the juvenile wildebeest was about to be eaten for lunch. However, as so often is the case, timing is everything. Fortunately for this young wildebeest, the crocodile misjudged its attack by a mere fraction a second.
Many furniture designers have come up with some rather unusual designs for a table in the past. However, there has never been one designed to be a resting spot for the family cat; until now that is. With its glass top and hammock as a lounging place for “Garfield”, it has to be one of a kind.
Waters of the east coast of Japan are occupied by swarms of giant jellyfish. The local residents say that they have never seen jellyfish of such enormous size. The jellyfish reach about two meters in diameter and weigh around 200 kilograms.
The 'natural farm' acts as a nursery for breeding whales, as well as a rehabilitation centre for former performing animals before they are set into the wild. The whale sanctuary was designed and built by marine biologists from St Petersburg University. Now let’s see great shots of these curious creatures..
