Crowded cities often result in the lack of open, natural spaces. These practical rooftop ‘park’s offer city dwellers some reprieve from this by utilising a redundant space to create quiet, beautiful settings that house swimming pools, theatres and comfortable sitting areas.

Spanish city Ronda is located on the cliffsides above the deep canyon in an area that is about 750 meters (2,460 ft) above mean sea level. Impressive bridges span over the canyon adding up to the city’s stunning view.

A fascinating view - ice covered the lake and the quay in Versoix, in the Swiss Canton of Geneva.
These punny city locations are really good.

This is an amazing mirage of a ghost city that was seen from the City of Huanshan, China. After a heavy rain, trees, mountains, buildings and an entire city suddenly appeared above the Xin'an River. I’d love to witness something like that.

A unique optical phenomenon was seen above the sea level in the north of Haikou City at 4 p.m. on May 9. Local residents were amazed by a mirage of a ghost city that hung between the sky and sea. The miracle lasted for an hour. It appeared due to the extremely high temperature on Hainan Island that is not common for this season of the year.
Some people find interesting ways to travel through the city.
Perhaps technology wasn't an option for their publicity campaign, as a group of people spent one month building an actual sign complete with small details like a woman riding a sheep (which doesn't even show in the final images). I'm pretty sure these guys were the overachievers in the gifted class at school. The image turned out beautiful as an advertisement for the city, but had they done it in computer 3d, they could have even adjusted it for each season by a few clicks of the keyboard. I'm sure it was a labor of love for them, but such an old fashioned way to go about achieving their goal. Go Gent.
Chechnya had 2 wars in the last 20 years there is how Grozny, the capital of Chechnya looked like before these wars. But today, the city looks quite different.
This small town was designated as the smallest incorporated town in America in 1976. As of the 2000 census Lost Springs has a population of 1.
These photos were taken by photographer Frederic Delangle. They are of the Indian city of Ahmedabad. The project is named “No life Ahmedabad last night”, as at night the city is quiet and empty although during the daytime it’s crowded and noisy. It took the photographer between 5 and 10 minutes of exposure to get an image.
As Frank said if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. These retro photos show some of the history of this bigger than big city.
These are photos of Marseilles, France. It seems that the garbage collectors have been on strike and this is the result. Apparently, they are trying to force the President to raise the retirement age to 62. But I doubt if the President is having any trouble getting his garbage picked up.
Manshiet Nasser is a strange community in Cairo, Egypt. People call this place The City of Garbage because tons of trash come here from all over the capital of Egypt. The most unusual thing about this place is that people actually live here. Another strange thing about Manshiet Nasser is that local residents, the Zabbaleen, including women and kids dig through the garbage looking for something to resell. About 80 per cent of this trash is recycled and resold later on.
Cairo is not the only city on earth where such a model of Manshiet Nasser exists. It is already copied by communities in Los Angeles, Bombay and Manila.

The Russian city of Norilsk is full of contrasts. It is home to one of the largest factories that produces metals and is full of very dangerous jobs and yet family life goes on as normal. Norilsk is located in Russian Siberia and is therefore not among the warmest places in the world, yet, as these photos show, the people there seem to get along just fine.
I don’t know who thinks up the names of some cities, but apparently some of the city planners in this country have a real sense of humor. As the signs in these photos show some of the city names are hilarious. So who needs therapy, after all, humor is the best medicine.
Imagine for a moment.
You go around the city, raise your head up and you see yourself on a huge screen and a huge hand that wants to touch you.
Frightening? What would you do? )
The correct answer is - smile ))
The joke turned out very good. Don’t forget to watch the video.
KidZania is a Mexican chain of family entertainment centers currently operating in 6 locations.
Every KidZania is themed as a child-sized replica of a real city, including buildings, shops and theaters, as well as vehicles and pedestrians moving along its streets. In this city, children, aged 2 through 14, learn about the adult world, the value of money and work, by experiencing up to 70 different professions. Every “professional” activity lasts 30 minutes and parents don’t have the right to interrupt or to interfere in any other manner while their offspring is “working”.
It proofed to be so successful that the other Kidzanias appeared throughout the world. Tokyo was the third city to create a replica city for children in October 2006. The first year of operations had 905,000 visitors, and has been keeping steady.
So here are pictures from the Japanese KidZania!

Seven photographers were making the photo-project about Detroit for 5 years.
The whole 5 years they were taking pictures that show the evolving of the city.
Especially nowadays when not many people are satisfied of what Detroit is.
The pictures aim to uncover the city, not what it has been before or what it should be today, but simply the way it is.
Here are the names of photographers who took part in this project: Corine Vermeulen-Smith,
Mitch Cope, Clinton Snider, Mark Alor Powell, Antonio Gomez, Ingo Vetter, Scott Hocking.
