NASA conducted a ‘Clean Air Study,’ that shows which plants are effective at removing different chemicals that have been linked to negative health effects like headaches, dizziness, eye irritation, etc. Even though the study is old, it is the most accurate and comprehensive up to now.

Environmental scientist Summer Rayne Oakes lives in a 1,200 square-foot (111 square meters) apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where she managed to put 500 different plants. There is even an entire vegetable garden growing in her closet!
 

Gavin Munro has devised a method of growing trees into furniture. He takes plant saplings and then manipulates the tree trunks to create the desired shape. This “living furniture” takes around 4 to 8 years to grow and the first batch will be ready for sale in 2017.
