It is rather interesting to see what passed for or was considered beautiful in Japan in the old days. Oh well, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Well not every Japanese girl in a weird outfit is a Geisha. Also, the girl in #1 is not even Asiatic. Her fan says "m'aimez-vous?", which in French means "do you love me?" The last two images also don't belong here; #15 is a man disguised in geisha outfit and I have no idea what's going on in #16.

some of these are old (color) shots of Japan taken before 1886. - the original Photoshop - It's called "Yokohama Picture" in Japan. - These monochrome pictures were colored by painters in 1880's.
