Australian actor Mel Gibson was the first man proclaimed Sexiest Man Alive, by the American magazine People, in 1985.

1986: Mark Harmon

merican actor Mark Harmon excelled at American Football during his time at UCLA, graduating cum laude in 1974 with a B.A. in Communications. He was nominated for an Emmy in 1977 for his performance as Robert Dunlap in the TV movie Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years. Since 2003, Harmon has starred as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the hit CBS series NCIS.

1987: Harry Hamlin

The American actor played attorney Michael Kuzak in the NBC legal drama series L.A. Law from 1986 to 1991. Since then he has appeared in several episodes of season six (1968) of Mad Men as ad executive Jim Cutler, and was nominated for a 2013 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his appearance in "A Tale of Two Cities."

In 1988, John F Kennedy Junior was chosen as World's Sexiest Man, he died in 1999.

At 59, the Scottish actor is the oldest man to have won the award, the first Briton, and the first to have played James Bond.

The American actor has been nominated for three Academy Awards and has won three Golden Globe Awards, he is Hollywood's highest-paid actor. Hit films he has starred in include; Rain Man (1988), A Few Good Men (1992), Jerry Maguire (1996), Vanilla Sky (2001), Minority Report (2002), The Last Samurai (2003), Collateral (2004), War of the Worlds (2005), Tropic Thunder (2008), Jack Reacher (2012) and Oblivion (2013).

In 1991, the World's Sexiest Man was Patrick Swayze, who died in 2009.

Born in 1941, the actor from Nebraska, USA, has been nominated for three Academy Awards, twice for Best Actor and once for Best Supporting Actor. His films include The Deep (1977), 48 Hrs.
