Californian Beaches are Overrun with Alien-like Sea Creatures (5 pics)

Called Velella velella--or “by the wind surfers”, these funny sea animals have been washing onto the beaches on the West Coast of North America by the thousands.

That's not so bad!

Oh, my...

Apparently, these creatures have been beach-bound after a change in the winds and currents that typically take them out to sea.

Here's a close up shot of the Velella, a small free floating hydrozoan. It’s currently the only known species in the genus.

That is called "bonito's crown" in Japanese word. And "bonito's formal cloche hat for the Imperial Court" means Portuguese man-of war.

They are probably trying to escape the radioactive water that is headed this way.
