“Dazed and Confused.
Good movie, but nothing happens.”
“My Dinner With Andre”
“Boyhood
It was a really impressive feat of filmmaking, and it got a lot of praise at the time, and for what it’s worth I enjoyed watching it.
But I’ve seen it only one time and I have no desire to ever watch it again.”
“The breakfast club. They go to detention.”
“Coffee and Cigarettes. Most Jim Jarmusch movies, really.”
“Ad Astra. So forgettable I watched it twice by accident.”
“Waiting for Godot.
Samuel Beckett really understood Ireland.”
“Man from Earth.
Don’t be confused though, it’s a f@#king amazing movie.”
“Nothing really happens in My Neighbour Totoro, but in a good way. That’s what makes it so peaceful and relaxing to watch. Studio Ghibli movies really have something special, almost magical about them that I don’t really know how to describe in words.”
“The happening, which is ironic given the name.”
“Burn After Reading is my favorite type of “wtf actually happened here?” movie.”
“Tarkovsky’s ‘Stalker.’ Still the best movie I’ve seen though.”
“For me, it’s definitely ‘Lost in Translation'”
“The Blair Witch project. One of my favorite Family Guy gags is Brian working as a seeing eye dog and explaining the film to a blind guy.
‘Nothing’s happening. Nothing’s happening…. Something about a map. Nothing’s happening…It’s over. A lot of people in the audience look pissed'”
“The Downtown Abbey movie. They had dinner.”
“Banshees of Inisherin. Spoilers below
I don’t like you anymore. Why? Just because. Please be my friend… No. (Chops fingers off) So we really can’t be friends? No. Ok. Ok.”
“Napoleon Dynamite”
“The “Before” trilogy – Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight
Three entire movies which are literally just a man and woman chatting and walking. And they are wonderful.”
“A Serious Man. It’s the most Coens of the Coens Bros films. Nothing is happening and yet everything is happening.”
What they mean is, there is nothing to tell. Stories that are about life but not about living. Both concepts are equally valid. Most all suspense movies are like this... long wait for minor story movements.
