Meet Frederika, a 91-year-old grandma from Hungary. She is photographed by Sacha Goldberger. This grandma has quite a back story. She was born in Budapest, 20 years before World War II. During the war she saved the lives of ten people. This all started by the photographer in order to cheer up Frederika as she was sad and depressed and wanted to just have some fun. After this photoshoot started, Frederika aka “Mamika” couldn’t stop smiling. The series has lots of success through out the internet and now Mamika has a lot of friends on her MySpace page.
These photos are from National Geographic’s Photograph Contest 2010. The images are in three different categories including nature, places, and people. It took eight weeks for the judges to select these winners.
Here’s a bunch of pictures made by Edward S. Curtis in 1906. The whole set of 1,500 photographs released in 20 volumes can be found in the book entitled "The North American Indian.” Curtis' goal was not just to photograph, but to document, as much American Indian traditional life as possible before that way of life disappeared. Curtis got $75,000 for his work from J.P.Morgan.

He was arrested in Thailand on conspiracy to kill US officers or employees and conspiring to acquire and use an anti aircraft missile charges in 2008.
