Money does grow on the trees. Australian RaboDirect bank has proved it by setting up a hilarious experiment. Bank workers chose a tree in one of the Sydney’s city parks and planted real five-dollar bills on it. They also used a hidden video camera to record people’s reaction to the abnormal dollar tree.

Submarines are often used by drug traffickers to smuggle cocaine to Central and North America. They are mostly reported to be used by Colombian drug cartel members who export drugs from Colombia to Mexico. Such narco subs are usually small, capable to hold 5-6 people and about 10 tons of cargo. The first time U.S. Coast Guard uncovered such a submarine was in 2006.

How Famous Painters Created Their Artworks (13 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       26 Jul 2010       13622

It is surprising that many well-known impressionist painters used still raw photos to create their artworks. They added colors and their vision to the original raw photograph, changed proportions and saved money because they didn’t have to pay art models any more. The results were amazing. For example, Edgar Degas used 3 raw photos to create his famous Ballet Dancers. Other artists followed Degas’ idea and also started to use photographs while painting their masterpieces.

Darth Vader Robs the Bank in New York (2 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       26 Jul 2010       7859

Star Wars characters are now popular among bank robbers. Darth Vader recently walked into the Chase Bank in New York with a hand gun for crowd control. Of course, people at first thought it was a joke. They didn’t think that a 6 foot 2 inches tall man in a helmet and cloak was a real robber. Good, the teller handed over all the cash in her drawer to Vader. The robber took away on his “Star Destroyer” bicycle. Some people now joke that the famous fiction character was just looking for money to fix his Death Star.

A Phone Booth in the Middle of Nowhere (14 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       23 Jul 2010       12076

This lonely paid phone booth was once working. It spent decades in the middle of nowhere, being left in the desert for some unknown reasons. It had its own number: (760) 733-9969. Campers who happened to find this phone located 8 miles from the nearest paved road used to answer the incoming calls from everywhere or make calls themselves.

Don’t try to call its number today though, because the National Park Service decided to rip the lonely phone booth out, that was reportedly set up in the 1960s to provide phone service to miners and other people. An independent film appeared in 2000 devoted to this phone booth. But the year 2000 was also its end, as this was the year it was finally removed.

When Afghanistan Had Hopes for the Future (23 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       23 Jul 2010       18736

British Defense Secretary Liam Fox called Afghanistan “a broken 13th-century country” when he visited it. His words drew fire on him. This happened not because he was wrong, but because he was way too blunt. Actually, Liam Fox wasn’t the first person to call Afghanistan a medieval country. There were people who labeled local inhabitants “barbarians with a 1200 A.D. mentality”. Many people really think that Afghanistan is an ungovernable land with chaos that would never make it out of the Middle Ages.

Still there were times when Afghanistan was a nice country where women could pursue careers in medicine, where people could go to the movies and work on the factories. This country used to produce many goods. It had a government that was able to undertake national infrastructure projects. People believed they had a future, but all their hopes were destroyed by 30 years of war.
