For some contemporary jewellery designers, cut coin art is a popular method of creating stunning and unique jewellery creations out of old coins. The practice is entirely legal in the United States providing the coins are marketed for use as jewellery and artists typically sell their work online. These below examples of cut coin art are works by Rob Johnson.

23 year old art student, Wang Yue, has been using the holes on tree trunks throughout the city of Shijiazhuang, China, as a canvas for her recent works. Each painting takes about two hours to complete. Her artwork has received praise in the Chinese media and has been warmly welcomed by local citizens.

It has taken 19 months for two people to design this cityscape that has over 250 skyscrapers and is inspired by art, science, music and movies.

South African artist, Marco Cianfanelli built this remarkable statue of Nelson Mandela in honour of the 50-year anniversary of his imprisonment. The monument is constructed of 50 separate steel bars and is located on the exact spot of his arrest that occurred under apartheid rule in 1962.

These “paper children” are cut out characters that Lowra then places in everyday settings to create light-hearted art pieces.
