Incredible Cakes by Sylvia Weinstock (19 pics)

When famous personalities want to astonish their guests with an incredible cake, there’s only one person they turn to – 82 year old confectioner Sylvia Weinstock. Whether the client asks a bunch of flowers or a copy of some favorite thing, for Sylvia it’s a piece of cake.

The price of a cake can reach $65,000.

The cake for Liza Minnelli and David Gest's wedding

Clintons and Kennedys are also among Sylvia’s clients.

Sylvia has been making cakes for 30 years

Sylvia Weinstock lives and works in Manhattan. Depending on the complexity of the order it takes at least 24 hours for her to make a cake. Every detail of her confections is edible.

Weinstock tries to keep her prices reasonable, but she thinks that there is no problem if someone throwing a $4 million party buys a $60,000 cake.

Fancy Smancy Cakes! What ever happened to chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Cake is not to be admired it is to be eaten.

With all my respect for this baker lady, I think any cake for 65,000 $ should be considered immoral. I would bake a big homemade delicious apple pie instead, and give some money for the people who starve. After all, destroying these works of art to eat them is also a pity. But, you know, that's the way it works in US.

Oh please, it's so nice to be hypocrite in the net. These kinds of cakes are made worldwide, and the US certainly isn't the only country where rich people are using their money on unimportant things, just think of Dubai or Saudi Arabia. I'm not American but accusing them of everything in these comments here at Izismile is just redigilous.

Some people love these kinds of feature cakes and if they are willing to pay for them so what? It's not like the bakers who make the cakes are millionaires. It takes a lot of time from many highly skilled workers to achieve a beautiful feature cake. Usually these kinds of cakes seem to cost a few thousand dollars in the US but making them is not cheap either. I'm pretty sure cakes that cost 65.000 are pretty rare, but like the lady said if someone is using millions of dollars on a party then a cake that costs 65.000 is just a small part of expenses.

I have been a cake designer and baker for almost 22 yrs. I aspired to even DREAM the way she and her team do. This kind of detail work does not come easily and it shouldn't come cheaply. People pay for art...so that's what this is. Unfortunately, you EAT it and it's gone, but what you are left with is the memory. Some people will spend a million dollars on a CHANCE to go to outer space. Why not spend it on CAKE...ART.
