Now, the cook in question is kind of bizarre: Seamus Blackley. He started as a video game designer who helped create the original Xbox video game system for Microsoft. In other words, he’s a very smart man with weird connections who collected the yeast from Ancient Egyptian pottery.

The process of actually gathering and growing the ancient yeast is incredibly complicated. It’s a process that took a week, but once he had the yeast… Well, when in Rome:

Now, even Blackley has pointed out that the yeast probably isn’t 100% pure yet. This was more of a test run to see if they could even harvest an ancient yeast strain and make something out of it.
