Facial Piercings
Research shows that facial piercings can disrupt the facial trigeminal nerve. This nerve is what connects the central nervous system to facial sensations. Getting pierced in the wrong spot can trigger dizziness, eye misalignment, and loss of balance. This moreso goes for piercings of the cheek, forehead, and chin, and not so much the nose. I just liked the photo of this girl.
Skinny/Tight Jeans
Tight-fitting jeans have been a mainstay in the fashion world for quite some time now. Wearing tight jeans for too long can compress the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve and give you meralgia paraesthetica- leaving you with occasional numbness, atrophied tissue, heat sensitivity, and a stinging pain.
Laser Printers
Nearly 40% of laser printers release ‘toner clouds’ that can cause lung damage similar to cigarettes.
Neck Ties
Wearing your tie too loosely can make your whole outfit look out of whack. However, when you tighten that tie up, be sure not to do it too tightly, as the constant intraocular pressure increases your risk of glaucoma.
Showering
While a nice hot shower is great, you might want to be sure you don’t take them twice a day or something wild like that. Showering too often can wash off important protective layers that, when gone, leave you more susceptible to illness.
Brushing Teeth
Brushing your teeth and flossing consistently is a must. However, it is recommended that you brush your teeth BEFORE eating food rather than just after. This is because the acids found in food soften your enamel- so brushing your teeth, especially if you do it too hard, can actually be damaging.
Running (for men)
Long distance running can cause some damage to your joints, but that’s not what we’re focusing on here. A combination of salt from your sweat and the fabric on your shirt (assuming you’re wearing one) can act more or less like sandpaper. Because nipples don’t callus, long distance running, sweat, and fabric can chafe your nipples so bad that they start to bleed.
Sleeping with a bra
No woman that I know enjoys wearing a bra, but apparently there are women out there who sleep with them on. The extra pressure on your skin can lead to an increase in salivary melatonin levels which eventually leads to poor sleep, irregular periods, and illness.
Excess lights
We are exposed to a ton of light every day. However, fluorescent light exposure can be particularly bad for us. Constant exposure to this light can lead to headaches, anxiety, stress, E.D., and even cardiovascular disease.
Soap Dispensers
While it is important to thoroughly wash your hands every time you use the bathroom, public bathroom soap dispensers are often seldom cleaned and are crawling with bacteria.
Vitamins
Vitamins are important, but if you’re someone who takes their vitamin C in a chewable tablet, be sure that you chew it immediately rather than letting it slowly dissolve in your mouth. Why? Vitamin C is high in ascorbic acid and can damage your teeth.
Boredom at work
Research has shown that people who constantly work ‘dull and boring jobs’ tend to develop a slower heart rate. This leaves them unprepared for physical shocks, thus making them more susceptible to heart attacks.
