Foula is one of Great Britain’s most remote permanently inhabited islands. The island has an area of 4.9 square miles (12.7 km2) and a population of 30 people. Islanders previously made a living from fishing. Today, most islanders are crofters with income from sheep farming and ornithological tourism.
